Downtown Development Program

Step One: Consultation

Contact the area plan commission to determine what permits will be necessary and the legality of your plans and whether they will be allowed.

Your site plan (including parking plan and curb cuts) will be considered for approval by the Site Review Committee.

The Area Plan Commission may also advise you to contact other agencies to check their requirements concerning the legality of your plans and whether they will be allowed.

Immediately after talking to the Area Plan Commission, you should contact Downtown Evansville, Inc. at (812) 424-2986. Downtown Evansville, Inc. will assist you through step two, the approval process.

Return the completed application with 10 copies to Mick Conati of the Design Review Committee. The deadline to submit an application and supporting materials is one (1) week prior to a meeting. There is no cost to the applicant.

The Design Review Committee meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month; see 2008 meeting dates. The applicant must attend the committee meeting.

The Design Review Committee recommends approval or denial to the Redevelopment Commission.

Following recommendation from the Design Review Committee, the application goes before the Redevelopment Commission, which approves or denies exterior building/property/signage changes.

The applicant is required to attend the Evansville Redevelopment Commission meeting; see 2008 meeting dates. There is no cost for this step.


After approval is received from the Redevelopment Commission, the contractor must go to the Building Commission to obtain the necessary building permits.
